Parents “Soooo Relieved” to See Child Surviving at Luxurious Sleepaway Camp

Syosset, NY (July 1, 2015) – This past Saturday, nervous helicopter parents, Shelia and Marty Goldblatt sent their daughter, Autymn, 10, to Camp Huron Lake, a plush Eden-like haven in the Poconos.  After dropping Autymn off at nearby Jericho Plaza to take the bus to camp, the parents spent the next few hours hysterical, wondering if they made the right decision to ship their daughter off for seven weeks to a place some have called a “country club on steroids for kids” for the second consecutive summer.

Each day at Camp Huron Lake starts with the campers being gently woken up to the soft sounds of Enya’s new age Shepard Moon, followed by a breakfast with enough food choices to satisfy even the pickiest eaters. Their day then consists of activities such as basketball, baseball, soccer, volleyball, swimming, gaga, arts & crafts, music, hockey, tetherball, naptime, tennis, free play, web design, wiffle ball, club snatch, boating, sailing, wind surfing, ropes course, yoga, fitness, go-karting, gymnastics, circus/trapeze, botox application (additional fee required), organic gardening, golf, massages, water skiing, off camp trips, skating, bowling, movies and ceramics just to name a few.  Las Vegas-style buffet lunches and dinners are the norm for the near two-month escape from reality.

“My daughter is a survivor…a real trooper to be able to get by for seven weeks away from home. I honestly don’t know how she does it,” wondered Shelia, 40, “I couldn’t do it! She really is a special young lady.”

At night, campers are regularly entertained by magicians, DJ’s straight from the NYC club scene, world-class illusionists, B-List musicians, and several other acts up from the Boca Raton/Boynton Beach winter show circuit. Before retiring for the night in their air-conditioned bunk, the campers are treated to their choice of homemade peanut-free chocolate chip cookies or gluten-free S’mores made with caramel-infused marshmallows.

Most of the campers at Huron Lake either text or FaceTime their fellow camp friends at least twice a day when camp is not in session so the seven plus weeks they spend interacting without electronics is a breath of fresh air to everyone. Every day at Camp Huron Lake provides another chance for each camper to frolick in a care-free utopia where he/she can participate in a myriad of activities with their very best friends in the world. The academic and parental pressures of their September through June lives are both out of sight and out of mind.

“I’m constantly amazed to see how great Autymn looks in all the pictures I see on the camp site. She looks so healthy,” a pleased Marty explained, “I never would have thought that she would be so happy an environment where she’s not being judged, graded, or pressured. I’m sooooo relieved. Who woulda thunk it?”
