Lake Huron, PA (June 30, 2026) – Despite their parent company defaulting on Israeli bonds and declaring bankruptcy in early June, Camp Huron Lake has been going full steam ahead in its first few days of the summer of 2026. Most parents were overly nervous about the bankruptcy for no reason as director Marty Feldstein has deftly made a few cutbacks that have gone unnoticed so far.
The microscopic changes Feldstein has employed have not yet been mentioned by any returning campers and first-year campers are blissfully unaware what camp used to be. In addition to postponing several capital projects, Feldstein’s best cost cutting has been done in the dining hall where he has made tiny, little, itsy-bitsy changes to the breakfast, lunch, and dinner menus. For example, instead of serving name brand cereals, waffles, pancakes, and eggs as in the past, the campers have been given delicious unseasoned white rice and unlimited refills of water from the kitchen prep sink.
“The kids haven’t said a word about the food which is great,” mentioned Feldstein as he ran his hands through one of the thousands of eighty-pound burlap sacks of Grade D government surplus white rice. “They’re just happy to be playing with their friends and I’m helping the government get rid of some Vietnam Era rations.”
Lunches have been equally appetizing the past two days with generous portions of tasty, savory white rice served with sea salt extracted directly from Lake Huron. And In a small departure from the camp’s traditional Sunday night BBQ meal of hamburgers, hot dogs and french fries, the kitchen staff creatively served rice burgers and rice dogs with sides of white rice.
“I saw the hot dog and hamburger buns so I got pretty excited to have something with protein then I realized it was just rice shaped like a burger in a stale bun,” stated junior boy Jake Blatt, already down six pounds in three days. “I put some watery Great Value brand ketchup on it I guess it was the best meal so far.”

Feldstein understands that the campers will eventually start to complain so for last night’s dinner, he generously threw in a few ounces of brown and yellow rice to the mix to give his campers a burst of mouthwatering flavor as an evening treat.
“I’m so happy that camp is still happening so I’m not going to bitch about the food but when it’s 95 degrees with 90% humidity and Marty calls the camp down to the lake for ice pops and we get rice pops, that’s when I get on the phone with my father,” said Inter girl Sophie Klein.

“I said come for rice pops but I can see how it could have been confusing,” admitted Feldstein while collecting the rice pop sticks to re-use for Arts and Crafts.
