Lake Huron, PA (July 24, 2026) – After spending three to four hours a night for seven straight weeks hunting and pecking through thousands of pictures to find her son on the Camp Huron Lake website, Amy Bloom was determined to take back her life by giving her son a distinct characteristic that would make him easily distinguishable while scrolling on an iPhone 12 well after midnight. Some parents have had their children dye their hair a non-traditional color in order to stand out but Bloom took things one step farther by giving her son a Mike Tyson face tattoo so unique to the camp population that if the facial recognition software couldn’t identify him, she would easily be able to.
Because her twelve year-old son Eli’s short brownish-black hair and brown eyes are nearly identical to 90% of the other campers, AI software just isn’t advanced enough yet to pick him out of a crowd. But after sitting through several grueling three-hour sessions at the halfway house of a recently released Bedford Hills Correctional Facility prisoner, Eli emerged with half of his face covered in a tribal design that surely no other pre-teen at Huron Lake would also have.
“He’s always mentioned that tattoos are cool so I figured let’s kill two birds with one stone,” noted Bloom. “It’s a win-win for everyone. He gets his face permanently disfigured and I can find him easier on the website.”
While Eli made quite a splash with his fellow bunkmates with his new unique look, he is well aware that when he returns home he will attending non-recommended weekly tattoo removal sessions for at least six to eight months so the tattoo is undetectable in photos from his upcoming Bar Mitzvah in May of 2027. Most people looking to remove some unwanted ink spread out their sessions over two years, Eli can look forward to intense discomfort, swelling and scabbing as high-powered lasers break down ink into tiny particles that his immune system will flush away.
“I’m happy to do this for my mom but I think next year I’ll get a henna tattoo instead. Not as cool but can probably be removed with Goo Gone,” Eli noted.
